Tara,
Sketches, roughs, lead-up work are the most interesting posts! Design process in general. Anything they don't tell you in school would also be great. :)

Thanks Augi, I'm glad you enjoy reading. Hopefully someone else reading may be able to help you with advice on graphic design education in Uganda. I would also try asking for advice on some of the graphic design forums http://www.graphicdesignblog.co.uk/graphic-and-web-design-help-online/

Hi there, i wanna thank you for this site. Its inspiring to meet graphic designers on here. I live in a world where graphic design is so so limited only to knowing how to use the programs. They are no schools that teach graphic design in my country and that has made me teach myself a little graphic design using the internet and books. I been employed and i am proud to present a portfolio to a potential client. I want to further my education (B.A.G.D) and i need advice on how to go about. I live in Uganda, East Africa

Wow...that's exactly what I was thinking. Creepy.

That's the most interesting thing to me about this industry: we're all given the design brief, and based on our experiences and skill sets we come up with countless different directions.

Too bad I didn't see this blog in May, otherwise I would have totally joined in, much to the shagrin of my paying clients.

Hi Joe

Thank for your input. I'd like to show more start to finish pieces so perhaps the case study I mentioned is a good idea. I can't always show my work as some of it is done through a third party :( .

Your idea for a challenge is a good one, but I did try something like this a while back with the Do designers think alike experiment and not many people took part.

Personally, I enjoy the concept-to-finished piece stories. It's always interesting to watch the process behind a design.

Another idea may be to post up a challenge, like a logo for a humorous fictitious company, or an ad for a fake retailer, and then give a deadline and have readers submit their creations. I've been wanting to do something like that on my own blog for a while, but I don't really have many designers reading yet, so maybe you could kick it off. Sometimes most of my inspiration comes from working on a job just for fun, where I can take liberties that I couldn't with paying clients work so it could work for everyone.

Cheers.

Hi Lauren, No problem I hope it gets you a few extra visits.

Thanks for your input on posts too. I do intend (as I keep saying) to write about setting up for print, but its a post I think I need to put a bit more time into.

I would love to have one of your design case studies, I better get writing the questions, thanks for your suggestions.

Thanks for the mention, Tara!

I made a comment on the mock up tips list you wrote that I would definitely like to see more articles like that. Share little tips and tricks you've learned along your way in the business. Things we can do to speed up the design process would be helpful, too.

That case studies idea sounds fun and useful! I'd be happy to submit a design and write about it. I'll keep an eye out for when you get those questions up. You're right, it's much easier to write when you have questions to answer. Some suggestions: What was your inspiration? What was the first step you took towards designing the piece (research, sketches, etc)? How many rounds did you go through before you came up with an idea you (or your client, boss, etc) liked? How did you choose a color scheme? Were there any restrictions/limitations you had you adhere to when creating this piece?
