Themedreamer a Dreamweaver WordPress Extension

themedreamer a Dreameweaver WordPress extension

A little while a go I read about an extension which could be useful if you know how to use dreamweaver and want to use it to adapt wordpress templates. The extension is called Themedreamer and allows you to open wordpress templates from within Dreamweaver by temporarily replacing the dynamic content with text. You don’t even need to set up a local server according to the feature list.

ThemeDreamer is an extension for Adobe Dreamweaver that can accelerate WordPress theme and application development by providing WYSIWYG (What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get) feedback within Dreamweaver’s Design View editor in real time. Simply put, you do not need to mess with a server or even have to upload your files to see the vast majority of CSS and WordPress Template layout changes. Alterations are immediately reflected within Dreamweaver’s Design View.

You can watch a few videos to see how the extension works.
There is a free trial you can download which gives you 15 days trial use. I downloaded it to try out, then got busy and didn’t get chance to try it properly, so I think I will purchase it soon (only $29.95) and give it a proper try out. If anyone else has tried it I would love to hear how you get on.

    Hmmm…this is very interesting.

I have to admit that making changes to my templates, uploading them live, seeing that it’s not exactly what I want, and then repeating the process numerous times before I am satisfied is a bit of a pain.

This product is definitely worth looking into.

This looks really good. I have to agree with Drew, uploading and then testing is very time consuming so it would be good to work on a local copy.

I shall have a look when I get chance.

I’ve been using ThemeDreamer for a couple of months now and it’s a very useful extension. Drew hit the nail on the head with the time wasted testing your theme changes. ThemeDreamer really works well for WYSIWYG editing of WordPress themes. I have a theme called SoulVision that I created with ThemeDreamer available for preview here.

All my themes from this point on will be created using ThemeDreamer for the simple fact that it’s a major time saver and there’s nothing else like it available.

Just wanted to let everyone know that a new release of version 0.4.1 has been released with CS4 support. Be sure to the install instructions and Mac OS X users may need to make the toolbar visible (View->Toolbars->ThemeDreamer) as it appears to not be turned on after install for some users.

    Enjoy!

What a great plugin for Dreamweaver! I have been wanting to migrate to WordPress from CMS made simple for several months but because of the hassle of creating a template for WordPress I just never got around to it. Although this plugin seems to work quite slow, I’m sure it is doing a lot behind the scenes and I’m pretty certain it is going to assist me in my first venture into using WordPress – as a content management system may I add! Anyway, thankyou Tara – I never knew such a useful DW plugin existed.

I’m sure you have tried designing a WordPress theme in Dreamweaver, you know it’s not very easy and the workflow is rather repetitive. Even with a local WordPress installation. But the themes do look pretty impressive though..

Hello,I was wondering if anyone knew of a place online to teach me the theme from the Dreamworks movie “Dreamer” with Dakota Fanning. It has a really pretty piano and violin in it. If you know of a place with that sheet music or a video to show me, that would be great! Thanks!

I have already set up a local testing environment using XAMPP, but always have problems telling Dreamweaver where the server is.. and it takes time to sort it all out.

This extension looks like just the sort of thing I need.

Lots of positive feedback in the comments… anybody using it with dreamweaver 8? Or are you all up to date with CS4?
