Written by Tara: Freelance Designer on Friday, 4 of May , 2007 at 1:59 pm

Love
When a creative idea pops into your head straight away and you know the design is going to look good.
Hate
When you get creative block and what you design looks terrible
Love
The conceptual work
Hate
Artworking a huge brochure or catalogue
Love
Knowing you design has been successful for a client,
eg. an advert brings in a lot of enquiries, or you see your packaging on the shop shelf.
Hate
When the goalpost keeps moving
Love
Doing something different everyday
Hate
The admin, job sheets, time sheets and accounts
Love
Being able to draw and getting paid for it
Hate
Knowing most of your work is thrown away - brochures, packaging, direct mail, magazine ads
Love
When someone really gives you time to explore a concept
Hate
When a jobs required the same afternoon
What are your loves and hates of your job?

LOVE
When you come up with a great design and you know it’s great.
HATE
When the client “loves” it too but has a few (read: many) tweaks.

Hate:
“..no, that text must be centred.”

Great post! I’ve got a couple more…
Love
Finding that you’ve done something almost identical in the past, and that it’ll save you hours of work
Hate
Discovering that you accidentally saved the version with the merged layers
Love
Staying in bed when you’ve got no client work
Hate
Getting up and finding that you’ve missed an instant message and three grand worth of work has been given to someone else

Hi Church of Integrity
Thanks for leaving a comment. Time for creative thinking, is one of the best things about the job. I just wish there was more of it.

Love - When I believed I produce a quality campaign that actually made the client laughs all the way to the bank. I mean, ultimately, commercial art usually got to fulfill one of these objectives: increase brand awareness or increase sales.
Hate: I did a great job and they asked for discount after the bill is presented . That’s when I would forget how to be lady-like.

I really love this post - if you have any more entries please put them up I’d love o read them!
LOVE: Finding blogs such as these which make you nod and say “yes, I experience all of these things daily!”
HATE: Marketing Managers who are shockingly awful at their jobs and don’t have a creative bone in their body.
