Graphic Designer vs Client

Share

Funnily enough a client friend sent me a link to this on You Tube. Don’t watch if swearing offends!

Wow easy on the swearing! I did really like the parts about microsoft word :) This will make a lot of designers out there smile. Thanks for sharing.

This made my day :) It’s nice to know I am not the only one who gets these sort of questions! I am going to have to pass this video on to a few people. Thanks very much for sharing, so funny.

I watched the video and the robots are cute.. hehehe.. I think i’ll need to buy headset so that i could hear there conversation.

This is too funny! I love it when clients tell me that it’s in Microsoft Word or to grab their 72 dpi logo from the website so I can put it in a 300 dpi brochure. Seriously, I feel graphic designers are LESS of graphic designers and MORE of educators. It’s sure as hell nice to blow off some steam though, once in a while! Thanks for making me laugh!

Terribly profane, but funny and coming from a client, it confirms my beliefs that some clients know they press our buttons and they do it anyway. I guess we have to use our professionalism and pray it comes handy in times like these!

A really good cartoon. Lets have more of the same!

Thanks for the great share Tara, it actually had me laughing out loud, especially at the “are you going to do it in Microsoft Word?”

  11. Posted October 21, 2009 at 9:47 pm | Permalink

Had a good laugh and a cool cartoon to boot

  12. Posted October 22, 2009 at 1:50 am | Permalink

Had to laugh real hard at that one, because something similar actually happened one day at work.. It never ceases to amaze me how “computer stupid” some people are, even when you explain things for them. It`s like they dont WANT to understand. “I`m your client, I pay your salary! You do what I say! Make it happen! In this industry, the clients word, that`s mine, is GOD!!”

Awesome video :) . Thanks for sharing, it really make my day better today. And it exactly shows the real relation between graphic designers and clients.

  17. Posted October 27, 2009 at 4:12 pm | Permalink

This is SO true… anyone can say they are a graphic designer these days, its terrible for all those who have years of training behind them.

    Great Post!

  25. Posted November 16, 2009 at 7:29 pm | Permalink

This is hilarious and so so true. It actually inspired me to write this post about the problems with clients and a lack of understanding about design. I think the industry has a bit of crisis with this as its fast losing respect.

Great video. This is worth checking too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2a8TRSgzZY&feature=player_embedded. It’s another great movie telling about vendor & client relationship and its paradoxes.

Those are all over the internet. They made them for audio production as well. They are hilariously real!

  30. Posted November 20, 2009 at 12:03 pm | Permalink

    Fantastic, had me in stitches!

  31. Posted November 21, 2009 at 11:17 am | Permalink

Absolutely brilliant, naughty but absolutely brilliant.
How many of us have been there and bought the T shirt?

Clients who don’t know what they want, don’t have text or graphics and as you say… “can’t afford much”, but “it will give you a foot in the door”.

Problem is, with so many “create a free website” sites out there, what can we do?
I try to explain to clients that there may be adverts on their free site… but do they listen

SEO is just the same, “get me more links” easy isn’t it?

I’m still laughing from the vid.

  32. Posted December 2, 2009 at 9:54 am | Permalink

You should post the other videos in the series. They’re all funny.

  33. Posted December 5, 2009 at 12:28 am | Permalink

This is quite a good idea. You don’t need an art degree to do art- if you have talent and if you work on it. You can teach yourself.

  34. Posted December 5, 2009 at 8:05 pm | Permalink

Haha… I’ve actually seen this one before on YouTube. It’s fast becoming a classic.

Ha! Great video! About 8 out of every 10 client meetings seems to go like that. I had one client, even after agreeing for me to produce their website, but before an actual contract was signed, tell me they’re going with “this guy they know who’s son knows a little html”. Needless to say they got what they paid for.

  45. Posted February 5, 2010 at 12:45 pm | Permalink

A great Video. Thanks for this great blog. This conversation should all clients view.

  49. Posted February 27, 2010 at 9:44 pm | Permalink

I think this video is funny because of the realisim of it. Lots of people looking for web design don’t know a thing about it or what kind of skill it takes to do it. Our job as designers should be to educate clients as to the business of web design. If we don’t educate them, it’s our own fault that stuff like this happens.

  50. Posted February 28, 2010 at 11:58 am | Permalink

    @Media Dew
I think that clients all want a great looking and highly SEO optimised site… on the cheap.

How many clients start by saying “I’ve just started a new business…. so I can’t afford much.”?

They don’t really want to know the details, it might cost them more money.
It’s just the nature of business!
