Agree with your post. Most people don't understand what goes into making a professional, appealing logo. It's much more work then people think! We print works all the time, and some of the best logos are ones I've seen much time put into.

I totally agree and can't wait to get to the logo design stage and working with a graphic designer on my little start up. First impression is everything and getting the right name and or slogan is hard enough.

Ive tried making logos before and usually its the simple ones that prove as a challenge. Simple is effective, but they require the most thought and care.

I remember a client a few years back who was looking for a new logo design after going for the cheaper option. The visuals which I saw looked like really bad clip art. I see a logo as an investment - it's what identifies a business and it goes on nearly everything.

Completely true. I've had quite a few clients who've had to spend additional time and money because they didn't hire a professional the first time around. For instance, I once had a client who admitted spending over $10K trademarking a logo he didn't like and for which he spent less than $200. How does that make any sense?

Totally true! Anyone with a mac or pc can make a logo these days. But the quality and the distinctivebillity (is that pronounced correct?) of a logo is the most important thing. And that can't be make by anyone who just bought a mac and downloaded a illegal copy of CS5. Thats where experience, profession and time... lots of time comes in. And thats why a professional logo can't be make for 50 bucks.

Agree 100% with this article, another factor that tend people to go for the cheapest logo design is that there is so many people ¨generally speaking¨ ( and you can see them in your own familiy, circle of friends, besides clients of course.) that just can´t distinguish a good logo from a bad or a very bad logo, since they have no artistic, design skills nor education in the design area, so is very easy for them choosing the company which offers the lowest rates for a logo design project without knowing that they may also misrepresent the brand and spirit of your bussiness in a big way, well here is where we came to explain them the difference between them, and how extremely dangerous could be choosing a logo that will may transmit the very opposite of what you may wish for your targeted clients which usually is reliability, trustworthy, authority, integrity, etc.
In other terms a cheap and bad logo is instantanously related to a cheap and a bad company to the educated eye, and that educated eye might result to be one or many of your potencial customers.

A properly researched and designed corporate logo should convey EVERYTHING about the business identity, even if you change the words. I always think Coca-cola or Disney when I'm creating a new branding or corporate logo for a client. Change the words, and you still have the same brand imagery.

Excellent artice!
